CHAFFEE’S MARKING and CODING SYSTEMS
Many products packaged with rotary band sealers require a lot or date coding for tracking purposes, and or for information to retail personnel and consumer. Chaffee offers two systems for marking. Each is available mounted to a standard out feed device, and will place a code at or just above the seal area.
Embossing: These use a type holder and steel type holder which produces an impression only. No inks are use with this system. A photocell activates an air solenoid to drive a strike against the type. Placement is consistent. Readable impressions can be produced in a wide range of flexible films and barrier structures. This would/will not be the best system for some hard-surface clear laminates. Standard type sizes range from 1/8 to ¼' (larger is possible). Capacity is normally up to twelve characters per line, with two-line over/under type holders available.
Dry Ink: Chaffee also offers a mounted MARKEM Model 986A dry ink coding system. This method uses a driven type wheel with brass type, which offsets ink from the heated ink wheel. Drive is provided from the sealer out feed. Type sizes range from 1/8 to 3/8. Available characters will depend on the size of type and operating method chosen.
Random Print: The random print option rotates continuously, producing a full impression about every 6-1/4 inches. The placement at the seal line will be consistent, although there is no registration of the starting point of the mark
Single Revolution: The coder is equipped with a photocell and clutch to produce a single
revolution of the type wheel on each package entry. This provides for consistent placement of the mark.
Chaffee has offered the MARKEM for many years in the random print option.
The New ONE-REV option will be more suitable for a great number of applications.
